The English Templar
Sir Percival "Percy" de Lacy Sir Percival "Percy" de Lacy is an English Templar trapped in France when Philip IV strikes at the Knights Templar. Imprisoned and tortured into a false confession, Percy learns the depths of human degradation and despair. His rescue from the hands of the Inquisition is, however, only the beginning of his odyssey. Although he initially joins the struggle against the Inquisition only reluctantly, he soon becomes consumed with the need for revenge.

"Percy did not explicity want to expunge love from his heart, but if hatred got the upper hand it would die of its own accord."

"'Do you know the worst of it?...His soul is being warped and deformed by hatred. It is consuming him from the inside.'"
Geoffrey de Preuthune, a former Templar novice now nearing 80, refuses to stand by while innocent men are tortured and burned. He chooses to take up the unequal struggle against both the King and the Pope in an effort to exonerate his Order and save his brothers - only to come to regret his own success. Geoffrey de Preuthune
Flice de Preuthune de Najac Flice is Geoffrey's favourite grandchild. It is she who first rescues Percy, but her understanding of Christian theology is too simple to be understood by the clerics around her.
"Umberto could not follow her silly, feminine reasoning, and he was torn between annoyance and enchantment as he realized that she, with her limited education and female brain, had mixed up and misunderstood the teachings of the Church."
This, the third novel of Schrader's Templar Trilogy, is set against the backdrop of the destruction of the Knights Templar by Philip IV of France.
It is a story of the struggle between good and evil in human hearts. Whereas Percy must learn to tame his hatred, Flice has to learn to tame and focus her capacity for love.
